Trouble Practicing Gratitude? Mek it so!

Leading up to the turn of a new year (happy 2021, friends!), many across the globe give thanks for what they are grateful for; from friendships, to family, to food on the table and water out of the tap.

Here at Jah Works, we hold “taking action” in high regard, and are grateful to be surrounded by people who don’t just talk about how to solve problems, but take action towards a solution. Simply put, and as the Jamaican patois saying goes, they “mek it so” (make it so).

While the first step seems to always be the hardest, once made, “mek it so” becomes more of a mantra in going about life and less of a specific challenge to overcome. If you are struggling with finding gratitude today, here are a few ideas to “mek it so” and start down the path of practicing gratitude:

  1. Each day, set aside a minute or two to think about three things you are grateful for. Set a gratitude alarm on your phone to remind you.
  2. Keep a gratitude journal, writing down your thoughts to revisit later (on particularly rough days, this is an excellent practice).
  3. Pass it on by giving back. Grateful for that hot meal? Donate your time or dollars to an organization providing meals to the hungry.
  4. Tell others you are grateful for them, and let them know why. A phone call, text or a handwritten note can mean the world to someone.

To take our own advice, we have so much gratitude for each of YOU, for helping us “mek it so”, our:

  • Readers, subscribers and followers who allow us to tell our story and be heard.
  • Donors, who create a sustainable, positive impact in the lives of people in need of our services.
  • Volunteers, who build rainwater catchment systems, organize fundraisers, and so much more.
  • Impact travelers, who have hearts of gold and want to give back to the community they visit.
  • Business partners, who see our vision and offer up their unique skills and connections.
  • Advisors and mentors, who help us plan for future success and longevity.
  • Community partners, who keep us grounded in the true needs of the people of Bluefields, Jamaica.

Keep the gratitude flowing in 2021! Leave us a comment to share how you practice gratitude, and forward on to your friends to inspire them to start their own gratitude practice!

Cheers to the New Year, and One Love,
The Jah Works Family
