We align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal #2: to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.
According to the U.N., about 2 billion people did not have access to safe, nutritious and sufficient food in 2019, and 750 million – or nearly one in ten people in the world – were exposed to severe levels of food insecurity.
While Jamaica is abundant with fruit trees and fresh foods, not everyone benefits. It can be expensive to eat well on a limited income, and with the pandemic, food prices have skyrocketed even further. Healthy food paves the way for improved long-term wellness, childhood education (good breakfasts = good learning!) and more – it’s a much needed part of a sustainable community!
Our Healthy Food program is in it’s infancy and we are excited to start growing it in partnership with the people of Jamaica. To date, we’ve begun a pilot Farm to Table Food Relief project that provides a box of organic food to those who are food insecure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
